Is HARLEY packing up from Indian market?
Well this question will surely hurt the most Harley Davidson fanboys out there, whether Harley is planning to exit from Indian two wheeler market?
- Harley sent out various feelers that lights up the above question and about its hairline operation in India
- Harley-Davidson India sold fewer than 2,500 units in the last financial year, industry officials said.
- The company got the lowest of all time sales, 100 in the month of April-June 2020
- They are planning up for outsourcing their lease land plant in Haryana
- The company is focusing upon their major volume market viz, North America, Europe and parts of Asia Pacific
- To offload the unsold inventory , American manufacturer introduced a discount of Rupees 65,000, but all went in vain.
The decision is in keeping with its latest ‘rewire’ strategy to focus on about 50 markets, mainly in North America, Europe and parts of Asia Pacific that represent the “majority of the company’s volume and growth potential”. In a statement accompanying its second-quarter results last month, Harley- Davidson said: “The company is evaluating plans to exit international markets, where volumes and profitability do not support continued investment in line with the future strategy.”
If Donald Trump don't accepts Narendra Modi's new offering of cutting down import tariffs to 50% , the latter will also continue its winding up from India , as the earlier American automotive giant General motors did and sold its plant in 2017.
The company declined to comment on its immediate plans for India and an external spokesman said it “does not comment on speculation”.
